Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has warned the former national chairman of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, not to celebrate the vote of confidence passed on his successor, Senator Iyorchia Ayu as such action may be in futility.
Recall that the National Executive Council, NEC, of the PDP had on Thursday passed a vote of confidence on the embattled Ayu thereby laying to rest the demand made by Governor Wike and his team that one of the for peace in the party was the removal of Ayu as national chairman.
Rather than ousting the chairman of the party to assuage the Wike’s team and his supporters, the chairman, Board of Trustees, BoT, Dr. Wahid Jubril and the chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Aminu Tambuwal chose to sacrifice their positions which are now occupied by Senator Adolphus Wabara and the Oyo state Governor, Seyi Makinde respectively.
Speaking at the grand reception of over 5000 members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and other political parties at the Isaac Boro Park in Port Harcourt, Rivers state capital on Saturday, Wike made it clear that no amount of confidence vote would save Ayu from being ousted from the position.
The governor said Secondus seemed to have forgotten in a hurry that it was not the first time a sitting national chairman was removed after a vote of confidence was passed on him.
“I was watching and listening, they said there is one man called Secondus who was dancing, celebrating that NEC gave their person a vote of confidence. He forgets history. Ask him, the same NEC through Aliyu Babangida who moved a motion for vote of confidence supported by the same person, Ndudi Elumelu, they gave him a vote of confidence. What happened? He left the office.”
“We don’t fight and go back. If you like you can have as many as 20 votes of confidence, it is not my business. My business and my team is to make sure the right thing is done in PDP.
