Xavi Wants Barcelona Job, Confirms ‘There Have Been Talks’

As Barcelona officials begin talks with Al Sadd about a contract for the former Barca midfielder, Xavi says he wants to ‘go back home.’

The 41-year-old is now the manager of Al Sadd in Qatar, but has been extensively linked with the Barcelona position following Ronald Koeman’s dismissal.

Officials from the club are currently in Doha, Qatar, to discuss bringing the 41-year-old back to Spain.

While Al Sadd are desperate to maintain hold of the World Cup winner, Xavi has made no secret of his desire to return to the city where he spent the majority of his playing career.

“I have been talking to Barca for days, it’s all set,” he said. “The clubs know my position and I hope it gets resolved soon.”The clubs are talking. I can’t say much but I’m a positive person. It’s about common sense. They need to reach an agreement. That’s the issue.”

The Barcelona hierarchy believes that Xavi is the man who can restore the club to its former glory.

Between 1998 and 2015, Xavi played 779 games with the club, winning 25 major awards.

Al Sadd, on the other hand, are hesitant to let him go in the middle of the season.

The club’s chief executive Turki Al-Ali said: “The club’s position is clear from the beginning – we are committed to keeping Xavi with us.”We cannot have him leave at this sensitive time of the season.”
