Unvaccinated Civil Servants Turned Back At Federal Secretariat

Unvaccinated civil servants are currently being denied admission to the Federal Secretariat in Abuja due to a lack of confirmation of COVID-19 vaccination and negative PCR tests.

In October 2021, the Federal Government issued a warning that civil servants who had not been vaccinated against COVID-19 would not be allowed to work in government offices.

Following the news, the Nigerian Association of Senior Civil Servants requested that the deadline be extended until March of the following year.

However, officers from the Nigerian Police Force and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) were sent to ensure compliance at the Federal Secretariat’s Head of Civil Service of Federation Wing.

On Wednesday morning, the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announced the finding of the first cases of COVID -19’s Omicron variant in the country.

The variant was discovered among South African travelers after genome sequencing of positive cases from a regular day two test at the National Reference Laboratory (NRL) in Abuja, according to the NCDC.

The Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19 had insisted that civil servants without proof of vaccination and negative PCR tests would not be allowed to access government buildings from December 1, 2021, ahead of the Federal Government’s directive that officers in the public service on Grade Level 12 and below resume duties on Wednesday, December 19, 2021.
