Three pupils from Dowen College in the Lekki region of Lagos State, according to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, are presently in police custody for allegedly physically abusing 12-year-old Sylvester Oromoni.

Two additional pupils from the school who were mentioned in the attack are currently on the loose, according to Odumosu, who also stated that those in police custody are assisting the Command with information on how to hunt them down.

The Commisioner said, “It is still an allegation until we conduct our investigation. We just started the investigation yesterday (Monday). Two out of those mentioned in the viral video are at large while three of the students are helping us to get others.”

“I am in contact with my counterpart in Delta State. I spoke with the parents yesterday, we are perfecting everything scientifically,” Odumosu added.

The school principal, housemasters, and other officials of the Lekki-based school are also aiding the police with information, according to the Lagos CP, as the Command launches a full-scale investigation into the circumstances surrounding Oromoni’s death on November 30, 2021.

The dead boarding student’s father claimed his son died as a result of injuries received during an assault by five of his schoolmates who sought to initiate him into cultism, but the school said he died as a result of an injury acquired during a football game.

Since Oromoni’s death on November 30, 2021, the case has sparked national outcry, prompting federal and state administrations to take a variety of steps.

The Lagos State Government ordered the school be closed indefinitely and locked up pending the conclusion of an inquiry into Oromoni’s death.

Odumosu also directed the State Criminal Investigation Department’s Homicide Section, Panti, to take over the investigation of the matter immediately.
