Suspended Nigeria Ports Authority Boss, Hadiza Bala Returns.
Suspended Hadiza Bala-Usman, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), is being considered for reinstatement or another role within President Muhammadu Buhari’s government.
Bala-Usman was suspended by the federal government in May 2021 as part of efforts to “enable an impartial examination of the agency’s accounts and remittances” when she was in charge.
She was accused of violating the government’s financial standards by allowing the NPA to under-remit funds when she was in charge.
Since then, Mohammed Bello Koko has been chosen to lead the agency in an acting capacity in her stead.
Despite the fact that the panel appointed by the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, to examine alleged violations by the suspended Managing Director of the NPA has yet to present its findings, this suggests that Bala-Usman may not return to her position.
According to sources acquainted with the situation, preparations are being finalized to either restore the suspended NPA chief or consider her for another post in the public sector, and that an official announcement would be made soon.
Recall that Bala-Usman met with Buhari informally on Friday during the President’s courtesy visit to the Emir of Zazzau, HRH Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, in Zaria, Kaduna State, as part of his two-day business tour.
In one of the images released by Aso Rock media handlers, the suspended MD was seen conversing with the President.
Bala-Usman may have previously met with President Buhari behind closed doors and away from cameras, but Friday’s meeting was the first time the two will be seen together in public since the suspension was announced.
The image also shows Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai and his deputy, Hadiza Balarabe, standing close to Bala-Usman and President Buhari.
