The Senate has said that the screening of the nominee for the position of Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulrasheed Bawa, will be done in plenary.
This was made known by the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan after he read President Muhammadu Buhari’s letter to the Senate at the start of plenary on Tuesday.
However, no date has been announced for the screening exercise.
In his letter to the lawmakers, President Muhammdu Buhari communicated his decision to appoint the 40-year-old Abdulrasheed Bawa as the new EFCC boss and sought the Senate’s confirmation.
The president said the appointment is in accordance with the EFCC Act of 2004.
It would be recalled that the former Acting Chairman of the anti-graft body, Ibrahim Magu, was suspended from office by President Buhari in July 2020 and since then, the position had remained vacant while the commission’s Director of Operations, Mohammed Umar, was directed to carry out the functions of the office in acting capacity.
