Ronaldo, Messi Set To Renew Rivalry As PSG Draw Man United In UCL Round Of 16

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi rivalry will reunite in the Champions League round of 16 after Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain were drawn together.

United won their group, with Ronaldo playing a key role, scoring six goals in six games, while PSG finished second behind Manchester City, despite Messi hitting the net five times.

Last year, the two clubs met in the tournament, with United winning 2-1 in Paris, but the Ligue 1 side gained their vengeance at Old Trafford, winning 3-1.

An additional subplot to the game involves the managers, with Mauricio Pochettinho linked to the United position when Ralf Rangnick’s temporary tenure expires in the summer – speculations that have grown with ongoing conjecture over the Argentine’s future in Paris.

In other matches, City will face Villarreal.

There was considerable uncertainty when United were drawn against the Spanish team, but because they had met in the group stage, the ball needed to be re-drawn, with Pep Guardiola’s side coming out instead.

Chelsea will play French side Lille in an attempt to regain the trophy for the London club under Thomas Tuchel.

Liverpool, who won the competition in 2019 and have been in imperious form with a perfect record this season, were drawn against Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg.

Real Madrid, who have won the championship a record 13 times, will meet Benfica of Portugal.

Atletico Madrid, the reigning Spanish champions and Real Madrid’s local rivals, will meet 2020 winners Bayern Munich, while Inter Milan will face Ajax and Juventus will face Sporting.
