President Buhari Congratulates NBA President-Elect, Olumide Akpata


President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated the new President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mr Olumide Akpata, on his election as the head of the legal body.

The president in a statement issued by his special assistant on media and publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, wished Akpata success on the mandate given to him to lead Nigerian lawyers to chart a path of professional development and fulfilment.

President Buhari said he believed that the new NBA president, as a lawyer with experience spanning two decades, who had also held several strategic positions in the legal association, had vast knowledge and experience in litigation, corporate world and the ability to engage government at different levels, would not disappoint those who had given him their mandate.


He said such knowledge and experience would be of immense benefits to both the association and all Nigerians, whom he said were looking up to the learned fellows as crucial stakeholders in a modern democracy.

The president assured the new leadership of the NBA of the continued cooperation of his administration in the efforts to address the broad range of challenges and opportunities facing the legal profession and the country.

Olumide Akpata emerged winner of the NBA elections after defeating Dele Adesina, SAN, and Dr Babatunde Ajibade, SAN, in a landslide victory.

Akpata polled 9891 votes while his closest opponent Ajibade, SAN, recorded 4328 votes to come second, Dele Adesina came third in the elections with 3982 votes
