Heavily armed gunmen are said to have ambushed a bullion truck belonging to one of the new generational banks on its way from Warri to Asaba, the Delta State capital.

The event occurred on Thursday morning at the Otor-Owhe hamlet along the ever-busy Ughelli/Asaba road in the state’s Isoko North Local Government Area.

According to reports, the gunmen attacked the bullion van and the police escort squad while driving in two Sienna cars.

The hoodlums were believed to have hauled away an undetermined sum of money from the bullion vehicle.

Armed security guards accompanying the bullion were believed to have engaged the hoodlums, and both sides were said to have been injured during the exchange of gunfire.

Furthermore, the money allegedly hauled away was ‘condemned’ money being taken to the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Asaba office (CBN)

In a statement issued late Thursday night, the Delta State Police Command confirmed the attack.

In a statement issued by its spokesperson, DSP Bright Edafe, the Command also stated that a police officer and the driver of the bullion van were injured in the incident.

The statement, however, remained quiet on whether the shooters made off with the money allegedly brought the vehicle.
