PDP Urges Urhobo Union To Withdraw Edevbie’s Endorsement.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta Central Senatorial District has appealed to the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU), the Urhobo nation’s apex decision-making body, to withdraw its endorsement of one of the governorship aspirants, Olorogun David Edebvie, with immediate effect, ahead of the party’s primaries.

In a statement made available to journalists in Asaba yesterday, the PDP Delta Central Chairman, Chief Fovie A.P., and 30 others accused UPU of usurping the party’s powers in the ongoing electioneering process leading to the primaries.

The UPU, as a sociocultural umbrella of the good people of Urhobo of Delta Central Senatorial District, would do more good than harm to the Urhobo nation if it strictly adhered to the Union’s constitutional provisions and played only advisory roles for Urhobo political actors and to some extent political parties when the need arose, according to the party.

The statement recommended UPU to limit its operations to socio-cultural activities as defined in its constitution and to stay away from party politics and election affairs in general.

According to the statement, UPU and all other ethnic or tribal unions, with the exception of political pressure organizations and individuals, will refrain from backing all categories of applicants in our party in the future.
