PDP Suspends Thirteen Ondo Members.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State’s Ilaje local government area has said that former members of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) in the region, led by a former gubernatorial hopeful, Banji Okunomo, had yet to completely register as PDP members.
According to the PDP constitution, all members of the party must register with the party in their respective wards, however the former ZLP members merely declared their defection in a hotel.
After former Governor Olusegun Mimiko rejoined the PDP, the whole ZLP organization in Ondo State crumbled.
However, the PDP in Ilaje local government stated in a statement issued following its weekend meeting that Okunomo’s and other former ZLP members’ acts and activities were unlawful.
In the communique signed by 10 PDP leaders in Ilaje such as Johnson Ajimison, Adeniran Oronla, Mandah Akinbulejo, the party announced suspension of 13 members in the locality.
Among those suspended were nine executive members including the Youth Leader, Omoseebi Sylvester, Woman Leader, Ajimisan Omoleye amongst others.
According to the statement, the 13 members were accused of political misbehaviour, rascality, and flamboyant exhibition of insubordination.
It claimed that the suspended members’ activities violated section 58(1)F items F, H, I, and J of the party’s constitution.
In his response, Okunomo stated that when he rejoined the PDP, he was granted a waiver and that the Ward leaders were unable to ascertain his membership.
He however stated that Johnson Ajimison was suspended as chairman of the PDP, Etikan Ward, for failing to hold a meeting in the previous year.
