Osinbajo Visits Olu Of Warri, Ovie Of Uvwie.

Professor Yemi Osinbajo, the Vice President, has urged for traditional rulers in the country to have some constitutional powers, saying that monarchs should take initiatives to maintain peace in oil towns.

On Saturday, Osinbajo paid separate visits to the Olu of Warri, His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, and the Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Dr Emmanuel Sideso, respectively, at their palaces in Warri South and Effurun in Uvwie local government areas.

The Vice President praised the country’s traditional rulers for their efforts in promoting grassroots peace, noting that they have maintained a close relationship with the people.

Continuing on traditional rulers’ constitutional roles, he said the National Assembly should look into the many calls for traditional rulers’ constitutional roles, adding that President Muhammadu Buhari was also on board.

He also urged the various monarchs to continue consolidating peace in their own domains.

Barrister Kingsley Otuaro, the state’s deputy governor, who accompanied the Vice President on the tour, spoke extensively about traditional rulers’ efforts to maintain peace in their environment.

He went on to say that they should be granted constitutional roles to help them succeed.
