Ondo 2020: INEC Presents Certificate Of Return To Akeredolu

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has presented certificates of return to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and his running mate, Lucky Ayedatiwa.

INEC National Commissioner for Ondo State, Adekunle Ogunmola presented the certificates on Tuesday at the commission’s office in Akure while reiterating INEC’s commitment to conducting credible elections.

In his remarks, Governor Akeredolu commended INEC for the successful conduct of the election saying the Ondo election was an improvement over the recent Edo polls.

Ijaw News earlier reported how Akeredolu swept the election with over 90,000 votes.

Akeredolu was declared winner on Sunday by the chief returning officer for the election, Professor Idowu Olayinka after polling 292,830 votes as against the 195,791 and 69,127 votes secured by Eyitayo Jegede of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Agboola Ajayi of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) respectively.

In his re-election campaign, the governor promised to provide composed and focused leadership marked by economic growth and improved security for people in the state.

Residents of the state came out across 3,009 polling units of 203 electoral wards/ registration areas in the 18 Local Government Areas (LGA) of the state, to choose their leader for the next four years.

It is worthwhile to note that, Akeredolu’s first tenure as governor will expire on February 23, 2021, from when he will begin his second 4-year tenure.
