Odozi Obodo Peace & Unity Cup Is An Opportunity To Discover Talents In Delta State.
The Odozi Obodo Peace and Unity Cup has been designated as a tool for discovering skills among the five quarters that comprise the Amai kingdom in Delta State’s Ukwani Local Government Area.
Chief Goddy Aboh, Odozi Obodo 1 of Amai kingdom, made this entry at the Delta State tournament’s second edition.
Football is one of the most important weapons for fostering peace and harmony in our country, Nigeria, and, by extension, the global society at large.
According to reports, the grand finals of this year’s event was a goalless draw after 90 minutes of play between Osele United and Oguma FC.
Osele United won with four goals, while Oguma won with five goals following a penalty shootout. Osele United won the first cash award of N250,000, followed by Oguma FC in second place with N160,000 and Ekum Sharp Shooters FC in third place with N110,000.
Meanwhile, Aboh, the competition’s organizer, told GbaramatuVoice on the sidelines of the event that the goal of the peace and unity football competition is to foster peace and unity among the youths, the various quarters and communities that make up the Amai kingdom, and it is done during this festive period when all sons and daughters of Amai visit home to plan for the new year.
“Football is one of the most unifying factors in the world globally, so looking at Amai kingdom as it is, segregation is the watch word, as you can see, this competition is done between five quarters, we have the Amai-Nge, Umuekum, Omuosele, the Ishikaguma, and Umubu, so since football is one of the most unifying factors, I decided to calm my mind down to my own kingdom, the Amai kingdom to be able to use football to unite the five quarters, as, it is tagged peace and unity cup. The whole essence is to unite the five quarters.
“This is my little way of giving back to the society as the Odozi Obodo1 of Amai kingdom, which means a kingdom developer, a title I was conferred on. Those who win will be given prizes to encourage talents from the grass roots because charity begins at home, and it is part of human capacity development. And this will give them sense of responsibility.
“Peace building is sacrosanct in every kingdom , peace and unity is the footpath to development and peace builders are noiseless people. Football is the connecting rod to a peaceful community where all come together to play with passion and commitment to talent development.
“The Odozi Obodo Peace and Unity in Amai kingdom in Ukwani Local Government Area of Delta state has created a laudable unity among the people,” Aboh added.
On his part, the Chairman of Ukwani LGA, Possible Adjede, expressed his excitement about the event.
According to him, “What is happening here today is a practical demonstration that brings the youths together. I am happy this is happening in my town, the essence of the local government is the government of the local people, when we see this kind of things, it is way to bring out the talent of our young ones, we are very happy at the local government level.
“I thank Chief Goddy Aboh for this initiative, we pray God to strengthen the donor, the organizer.”
Also, the state Secretary General, People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Dan Ossai, said: “What is going on is worthy of emulation, because this is what the youths want to encourage them, the promoter of this event has actually done well.”
