Within the first quarter of 2022, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) detained 69 oil thieves and vandals in Akwa Ibom State.

Mr Abidemi Majekodunmi, the state Commandant of the NSCDC, revealed on Thursday in Uyo that 16 illegal refinery operators had also been arrested.

Majekodunmi stated that it was the NSCDC’s responsibility to protect the government’s key infrastructure and to bring economic saboteurs in the state to a halt.

He stated that in order to avoid crime, the command has been aggressive in gathering intelligence across the state’s 31 local government districts.

Majekodunmi urged communities with essential government infrastructure to treat it as their own and safeguard it from damage.

He stated that the agency has been active in conflict resolution, particularly in boundary disputes, and had effectively arbitrated on such matters.
