Northern Group, ACF Slams Governor Akeredolu, Says Threats Won’t Get Southern Nigeria 2023 Presidency.
On Wednesday, the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) strongly denounced a remark attributed to Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN), in which he said that any political party fielding a northern candidate in the 2023 presidential election will lose.
During a welcome visit to the governor by members of the Power Rotation Movement, led by its Chairman, Pogu Bitrus, Akeredolu stated that Southern governors are committed to ensuring that the country’s next President is from their area.
The South has 17 states, while the North has 19, for a total of 36.
The ACF, through its National Publicity Secretary, Emmanuel Yawe, responded to Akeredolu’s comments on Wednesday by saying the governor should quit making threats.
Threats, according to the ACF, will not deliver the Southern region the presidency in 2023, stressing that Akeredolu, as a senior lawyer, should know better.
He said, “As a very senior lawyer, Governor Akeredolu should know the provisions of the constitution. It is therefore not possible for a group of states to come together and say we ‘must’ produce the president. Anybody eying that seat must traverse the country, north and south to meet the demands of the Constitution,” the statement read.
