Nigeria Defeat Sudan To Secure AFCON Last 16 Place.

Nigeria’s unbeaten start to the African Cup of Nations continued with a comfortable 3-1 win over Sudan.

Moses Simon passed the ball off for Samuel Chukwueze to slide home after three minutes, putting the Super Eagles in ahead.

Just before halftime, a ludicrous goal was scored when Kelechi Iheanacho’s free-kick was touched on by William Troost-Ekong, rebounded off Salaheldin Nemer’s head and then the face of Taiwo Awoniyi before sliding past Ali Abu-Eshrain.

Any chance Sudan had after the interval was gone as Simon sprinted into the box and hammered low into the net after a long passing move.

Sudan were awarded a penalty for a tug on Mustafa Mohamed’s shirt by Ola Aina, and Walieldin Khidir sent keeper Maduka Okoye the wrong way from the spot after the referee conferred with VAR.

Nigeria leads Group D with six points, while Sudan is currently in third place with one point after two games.
