Fold for Liberal Age Charity Initiative (FOLIAGE), a non-profit organization, has taken its tree planting advocacy labeled, ‘Plant A Tree, Save A Life,’ to the southern part of the state as part of its objective to plant 100,000 trees in Ondo State.

The Chairman and Founder of the NGO, Femi Ayejusunle, revealed this on Friday, saying the group kicked began the project in Akure on February 7, 2022, with the pilot site at St. Peter’s Unity Secondary School, Akure.

Following that, the organization formed a collaboration with the state government through the Ministry of Environment to prevent deforestation in the state.

In collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, the organization planted approximately 100 trees at Unity Secondary School, Ode-Aye in the state’s Okitipupa Local Government Area.

Engr. Babajide Akeredolu, Director General, Ondo State Performance and Project Implementation Monitoring Unit (PPIMU), vowed to help the organization in continuing the program so that it might expand across the state’s 18 local government areas during the kick-off ceremony.

The organization’s founder, on the other hand, said that the project will help secondary schools in the state.

He said that the state Ministry of Environment supplied a good range of economic trees to be planted through the Private Public Partnership (PPP) in order to shore up the money earned from the sector in a few years when the trees mature.

Ayejusunle added that his group launched the campaign to combat climate change, of which deforestation has been identified as a contributing element, and to assist the state government in its efforts to shore up locally produced revenue (IGR).
