The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has been asked to publish names of lawmakers who were awarded contracts by Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) as well as the details of the contracts within 48 hours.
The ultimatum was issued by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila during plenary on Tuesday.
The Speaker stressed that failure of the minister to voluntarily provide the said names would leave the house with no options than to employ the full wrath of the law in compelling him to do so.
Gbajabiamila who believes that Senator Akpabio was pulling the oldest trick in the book with the claims, noted that transparency demands that the Minister publish names of the said lawmaker.
It would be recalled that the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs Godswill Akpabio said most of the contracts in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) were awarded to members of the national assembly.
Akpabio made the shocking revelation when he appeared before the House of Representatives committee probing the Commission.
According to Akpabio: “We have records to show that most of the contracts at NDDC are given to members of the National Assembly. You people are the biggest beneficiaries,” he said.
The Minister had barely finished speaking about the irregularities in the award of the contract when he was interrupted by the members of the committee who asked him to give clarifications on other issues.
