Hundreds of hoodlums stoned Justice Nayai Aganaba of the Bayelsa High Court after storming his court to block proceedings in a political matter.

On Thursday, Justice Aganaba heard a lawsuit involving the All Progressives Congress’s contested ward, local government, and state congresses before his court (APC).

The claimant, Alex Blackson, and his brother, Osom Blackson, were hurt in the courtroom rush.

The attorneys were chased out as the judge was hurried away to safety by his police orderly.

Those who accompanied the claimant were allegedly brutalized.

The hoodlums were alleged to have been enraged by Justice Aganaba’s insistence on hearing Alex Blackson’s action, which sought an order setting aside the disputed APC congresses held last year.

There was also intermittent firing at the APC State Secretariat as police attempted to arrest certain party chieftains for their suspected involvement in the court invasion.

According to reports, two people were apprehended.

Dr Dennis Otiotio-Odoni, the state chairman of the APC, who distanced himself from the courtroom brawl, said that those engaged were PDP supporters.

He expressed confidence in the Judiciary’s competence to arbitrate on cases pertaining to the party and encouraged the police to track down those responsible for the court invasion.

Barr. P.J. Fawei, counsel for the claimant, called the invasion  disrespectful to the court’s sanctity.

Osom Blackson, a party chieftain and the claimant’s brother, informed reporters that those who tore his shirt and delivered him many blows were known APC members.

Hon. Sunday Frank Oputu, another Party chieftain, criticized the incident, calling it an obvious display of disdain for the law’s emblem.
