In a Boxing Day match against Aston Villa, Romelu Lukaku came off the bench to lead Chelsea to victory.
Reece James mistakenly diverted Matt Targett’s cross over Eduoard Mendy, giving the Blues the lead shortly before the half-hour mark.
Callum Hudson-Odoi went behind Matty Cash and was down in the area as the Villa defender leapt for the ball, but the advantage did not last long. Emiliano Martinez was sent the wrong way as Jorginho stepped up.
Lukaku came in at the start of the second half and put his team ahead 11 minutes later when he went around Tyrone Mings to head home Hudson-Odoi’s cross.
In stoppage time, the Belgian helped cement the victory by charging into the area and winning a penalty, which Jorginho converted.
Chelsea is now only six points behind Manchester City in the Premier League. Villa remains in ninth place.
