Divock Origi scored a late goal in the 90th minute to give Liverpool a vital 1-0 win over Wolves at the Molineux Stadium.

Following Chelsea’s loss to London rivals West Ham earlier in the day, Jurgen Klopp knew that a win today would propel his team to the summit of the Premier League.

Despite the importance of the three points on offer, Wolves got the better of the visitors in the first half, with tough aggressive midfield work, limiting any player wearing a red jersey to scraps in the final third.

The greatest chance of the first half fell to Mohamed Salah, who was set up by a low Andy Robertson cross, but Romain Sass slid in to steal the ball off the Egyptian’s foot just as he was about to tuck it away from six yards out.

The second half got off to a fast start, with both teams missing a number of great chances.

Diogo Jota rounded José Sá and then went into the box to complete the chance, but his effort from point-blank range was saved on the line by Conor Coady.

However, just as the game appeared to be heading for a goalless draw, Divock Origi stepped up to tuck the ball home from inside the box, breaking the hearts of Wolves supporters who thought their team had earned a point.

Wolves face a difficult away match against Manchester City next, while Liverpool travel to Milan for their final Champions League group stage meeting before welcoming Steve Gerrard’s Aston Villa to Anfield.
