Kalidou Koulibaly received a straight red card as Napoli extended their unbeaten Serie A record to 11 games this season with a 1-0 win against Salernitana on Sunday.

It was the first time Koulibaly has received a straight red card in the Italian top flight in two years, since his dismissal against Cagliari in September of 2019.

NAPOLI CELEBRATE GOAL

The Senegalese international was sent off for a dangerous challenge that prevented Nigeria forward Simy Nwankwo from completing a goal-scoring opportunity in the 76th minute of the encounter.

Prior to his dismissal, Napoli had taken the lead at the Stadio Arechi thanks to Piotr Zielinski’s 61st-minute goal.

Salernitana were reduced to ten men eight minutes after the first goal when Grigoris Kastanos was sent off for a horrific foul on Cameroon player Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa.

Despite the absence of Nigeria attacker Victor Osimhen, who sustained a muscle injury in training on Saturday, Luciano Spalletti’s side hung on to earn all three points, putting them on top of the Serie A standings with 31 points from 11 games.

Koulibaly will miss Napoli’s next league match against Verona on November 7 as a result of his dismissal.
