NIN Registration Halted As NIMC Workers Begin Nationwide Strike

Staff of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) have suspended the industrial action which they embarked upon on Thursday over the non-payment of allowances and COVID-19 risk.

According to reports, the workers decided to put the strike on hold after a meeting with the Federal Government, where it was agreed that the demands of the employees would be addressed.

The President, Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria, NIMC Unit, Asekokhai Lucky, also confirmed the suspension of the strike to newsmen in Abuja.

He said workers of the commission across the country were being contacted to resume work by Monday and begin the enrolment of citizens for National Identity Numbers.

Ijaw News had earlier reported how staff of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) embarked on an indefinite strike across the country over non payment of allowances and exposure to the risk of contracting Covid-19.

The workers were also worried about the continuous breach of the Covid-19 protocols, considering the large crowds that show up for registration daily.

They vowed to continue the industrial actions until the issues raised were addressed by the relevant authorities.

According to them, the refusal to work is in compliance with a directive following notice of strike issued by the NIMC Unit of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria, an affiliate of the Trade Union Congress (TUC).
