Enes Unal’s first-half strike won an important victory for Getafe in their struggle against relegation at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez, ending Real Madrid’s 11-game unbeaten run in La Liga.
Los Azulones took advantage of Eder Militao’s defensive blunder to score the game’s sole goal in the ninth minute, with Unal pouncing on the ball and scoring cleanly past Thibaut Courtois for his sixth goal in nine games.
Albeit a rocky start, Real Madrid improved and finally found themselves in control of possession, despite a lack of clear-cut chances.
Luka Modric, who slammed the crossbar with a superb long-range effort from just beyond the box in the 16th minute, was one of them.
Getafe’s David Soria had just saved the Croatian’s stinging effort from 25 yards out.
In the second half, Casemiro came the closest to levelling the score, but his superb half-volley from the edge of the box was beautifully saved.
Getafe has only beaten Los Blancos six times in La Liga, and they are now three points clear of the relegation zone.
