Fuel Tanker Explosion Kills 17 Persons On Lagos-Ibadan Highway.
A tanker caught fire on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway in Ogun State, killing at least 17 people.
The collision occurred about 5 a.m. on Friday, February 18, 2022, near the Isara bridge, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
Florence Okpe, an FRSC spokesman in Ogun, said 14 of the dead had been burned beyond recognition, but the FRSC had been able to identify one man, one woman, and a girl.
“The total number of people involved is not ascertained, but a total of 17 bodies (killed) have been identified.

“One male, one female, and one female child only have been identified, while others were burnt beyond recognition and no injury sustained,” Okpe said.
She went on to say that the tanker collided head-on with a Mazda bus with the license plate ZT728 KLD.
“The suspected causes of the fatal crash were route violation and dangerous driving, which resulted in a head-on collision and fire outbreak.”
Meanwhile, Ahmed Umar, the Ogun FRSC Sector Commander, characterized the accident as one that might have been avoided with prudence and adherence to traffic laws and regulations.
According to the Daily Post, Umar expressed his condolences to the victims’ families and advised them to contact the FRSC office in Ogere for additional information regarding the tragedy.
