Newly Signed Petroleum Industry Act Would Ensure Transparency And Accountability - FG

The Federal Government has threatened to sanction a foreign media outlet, CNN, over its report on the alleged shooting of #EndSARS protesters by soldiers at the Lekki toll gate on the 20th of October, 2020.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, made this known at a press conference in Abuja on Thursday while describing the expository investigative report as “irresponsible journalism”.

Mohammed described the event of October 20, 2020 as a “massacre without bodies.” while insisting that not a single body has been produced or a single family has come out to claim their family member was killed at the Lekki toll gate.

The minister described the report as one-dimensional and lacking in balance while alleging that CNN relied on social media video without verification to produce its report.

“This should earn CNN a serious sanction for irresponsible reporting,” he declared.

He added that the CNN report conveniently excluded the looting, violence by citizens, 269 private facilities burnt and looted, 243 govt facilities vandalized.

According to Mohammed, security agents deserve commendation and not condemnation.

He also took a swipe at Obianuju Catherine Udeh, popularly known as DJ Switch saying she would soon be exposed for spreading false information.
