Hundreds of Nigerian youths have taken to the streets of the nation’s capital, Abuja to demand an end to police brutality allegedly perpeprated by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS)

Armed with placards carrying various inscriptions, the protesters stormed the Force Headquarters in Abuja to demand the scrapping the police unit.

The protest strained vehicular traffic in the central area of Abuja where the police headquarters is located. The placard-wielding protesters also poured red paint on the road to represent the alleged killings and bloodshed by SARS operatives.

The protesters said many of the SARS operatives have been indicted for rights violations, including extra-judicial killings, extortion, illegal detention and other misconduct.

RevolutionNow Convenener Omoyele Sowore led the protesters to the force headquarters.

In Lagos, the story was no different as the demonstrators demanded the immediate dismantling of the SARSunit of the police for alleged brutality and extortion.

The protest, which kicked-off on Wednesday in Ikeja, was extended to Lekki toll gate opposite Oriental Hotel.

Musicians Falz and Runtown were also part of the protest.

Meanwhile, it was gathered that police detectives dispersed the protesters with some of them allegedly assaulted.
