Edevbie Promises Delta Pensioners Full Payment If Elected.
Olorogun David Edevbie, a Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate for 2023, has told Delta State pensioners that they will get full payment of their benefits if he is elected.
On a Delta Broadcasting Service program, Meeting Point, hosted by the Delta State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists on Monday, Edevbie said it is a disincentive for public service when senior citizens who have contributed to the development of the state and participated in the contributory pensions scheme are denied their entitlements and subjected to hardship.
Edevbie, a former Commissioner for Finance, stated that while the state government is concerned about the status of retirees but is limited by cash, he will use his financial management experience to create the funds within his first few months in office.
In articulating his vision for the state’s development, the immediate past Chief of Staff to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa stated that, in addition to maintaining the existing free primary and secondary education programs, he plans to introduce a students loan scheme for those who may require it, in addition to seasonal bursaries and scholarship programs.
He stated that his government will invest heavily in upgrading the state’s postsecondary institutions in order to produce graduates who will satisfy global standards and be employable in the public sector.
Edevbie has intimated that he will prioritize the supply of power and security in order to advance his core agenda of state modernization and industrialization.
This, he added, will include investments in training and motivating of public officials for increased efficiency and production, building on Governor Okowa’s initiatives on roads and other infrastructure.
