…Arogbo Ijaw Youths vow to resist marginalization with maximum force.
Youth of Arogbo Ijaw extraction have demanded that the next elected representative of the Ilaje/ Ese-Odo Constituency in House of Representatives must come from their axis saying failure to do so is an invitation for war.
This was contained in a letter signed by several youth leaders in the area and sent to the Paramount Ruler and Agadagba of Arogbo Ijaw Kingdom, His lmperial Majesty, Pere( Bar.) Doubra Z. Egbunu, Opukutu lll.
In the letter, a copy of which was made available to IJAW NEWS, the youth decried the continuous marginalization of Arogbo-Ijaw communities in the political equation of the constituency.
“In the entire Federal Constituency, it is only the Arogbo Ijaws that have not produced Member, House of Representatives despite our humongous contributions to the political successes of our neighbours. This can no longer be tolerated!” the letter read in part.
” As youth of the kingdom, our position is that, it is now the turn of an Arogbo man to go to House of Representatives. To deny our kingdom this time is to beat the drums of war and we are prepared for this, not minding the cost,” they maintained.
The youths noted that “the Apoi extraction produced Chief Z. O. Obolo from 2003 to 2007 and Hon Alfred Agbo- Ola Ajayi from 2007 to 2011.
” The Ugbo Kingdom produced Hon Nomiye from 2011 to 2013. The Mahin, Aheri, Etikan enclave has also produced Hon Mafo and now Hon Kolade Victor Akinjo who is about to complete two terms of 8years.
” It is only the Arogbo Ijaws that have not been represented in this conventional equation,” they said.
The youth maintained that the imbalance stands in fierce opposition to logic, equity, justice and good conscience describing it as unjust, unfair and disingenuously abhorrent.
” As youths, we have resolved to resist the continuous neglect and marginalization of our Kingdom on this issue,” they continued.
They called on the monarch to use his position to prevail on all political parties to consider an Arogbo man to represent our Federal Constituency for the sake of peace and good neighbourliness.
” The All Progressives Congress (APC) did well by giving ticket to an Arogbo man to contest in 2019. Though, he lost at the general election, the APC demonstrated the much-demanded inclusiveness and fair play. The PDP must also be urged to recognize Arogbo Ijaw Kingdom as deserving of same patronage,” they added.
Meanwhile, Ijaw News has learnt from credible sources that the current occupant of the House of Reps seat, Kolade Akinjo, is pushing a third term agenda.
The unwillingness of Akinjo to concede the seat for political balance has been described by many as an invitation to anarchy and inter-ethnic strife.
The youth who look more resolute than ever have, however, vowed to resist the marginalization with maximum force.
