Cuadrado's Late Goal Helps Juventus Return To Winning Ways In Serie A

Juan Cuadrado’s late goal gave Juventus a 1-0 victory against 10-man Fiorentina in their Serie A match.

With only three points separating the two teams, Juventus were eager to cut the gap on their Tuscan opponents while also avoiding their worst start in a century.

And the game got off to a frantic start, with both sets of players going toe-to-toe in an attempt to break the early deadlock.

Federico Chiesa’s quickness and vision caused all sorts of problems for the Fiorentina players, while Alvaro Odriozola’s trickery and precision delivery posed doubts to Matthijs de Ligt.

When Odriozola broke down the right-wing and sent in a fine cross to Riccardo Saponara in the Juventus box, the Italian couldn’t keep his volley down and it sailed over the bar from six yards out.

The second half began similarly, with both teams trying to figure out each other, making for a cagey affair, but as the game progressed, Fiorentina appeared to be the more likely to score, thanks to their slick passages of play.

However, the game’s momentum shifted after Nikola Milenkovic was sent to the stands for a two-bookable offense. His first was for a late challenge on Weston McKennie, and his second was for a tackle on Chiesa less than 10 minutes later.

Cuadrado, a former Fiorentina player, made the most of his extra man advantage by squeezing his shot into the back of the net from an almost impossible angle.

Juventus will next travel to Rome to face Lazio, while Fiorentina will host high-flying Milan.
