The Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has appealed to #EndSARS protesters to end the demonstrations across the country.
The Chairman of the forum and governor of Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, made the appeal after an emergency meeting of the NGF on Sunday.
He said the call became necessary as criminal elements may capitalise on the protests to maim innocent citizens and destroy properties.
Fayemi said the governours resolved to “appeal for the call off of protests as a continuation grossly exposes the fragile economic fundamentals of the country; particularly as criminal elements and hoodlums have hijacked the protests by maiming innocent citizens, looting and destroying properties.”
The NGF Chairman urged the protesters to “engage with the government appropriately at both the national and state level to ensure that the protests are not taken over by hoodlums who are instigating a breakdown in law and order in many parts of the country.”
Meanwhile, the #EndSARS protests took a catastrophic turn on Monday in Benin, the Edo State capital as alleged hoodlums broke into the Benin Correctional Centre and freed some inmates in one of the cells.
According to reports, the hoodlums, numbering over 100, broke open one of the cells and freed several inmates in the process.
