BREAKING: Fresh Oil Leak Reported From Aiteo's OML 29 In Nembe

BREAKING: Fresh Oil Leak Reported From Aiteo’s OML 29 In Nembe.

Residents of Nembe, Bayelsa State, have reported a new oil leak months after the spill at Oil Mining Lease, OML 29, on November 5, 2021.

Aiteo Eastern Exploration and Production Company, an indigenous company, operates OML 29, which includes the 97-kilometer Nembe Creek Trunk Line that connects oilfields to the Bonny Export Terminal.

Following Shell Petroleum Development Company’s divestiture in 2015, Aiteo purchased OML 29 for $2.4 billion.

The purported leak, which started from a damaged pipeline near Ogbolomabiri, has been spilling petroleum into the Nembe creeks, according to reports.

A local fisherman, James Karibo, mourned the occurrence, which occurred just three months after a previous leak from the plant, which lasted 32 days before being fixed.

Chief Ebinabo Waribo of Malabo in Opu-Nembe verified the event, but expressed disappointment that the corporation had failed to respond to the leak.

Aiteo Group spokesperson Mr Ndianabasi Matthew has yet to react to a request for comment.
