Arsenal beat Sunderland 3-0 at the Emirates Stadium to go to the Carabao Cup semi-finals. Eddie Nketiah scored a hat-trick.
Arsenal made nine changes from their 4-1 win against Leeds at the weekend, with out-of-favour striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang being left out of the matchday squad once again.
Arsenal took a 2-0 lead in the first half thanks to goals from Nketiah and Nicolas Pepe, before Nathan Broadhead pulled one back for the visitors.
Nketiah’s hat-trick was completed with a double after the break, putting the game out of Sunderland’s reach. After making his first-team debut, academy prospect Charlie Patino added a late fifth.
The Gunners have advanced to the semi-finals of a competition they haven’t won since 1993, and the draw will take place on Wednesday to determine their next opponents.
Sunderland had a strong start at the Emirates, pressing hard and showing the talent that has helped them move to third place in League One under Lee Johnson.
