The Ondo State branch of Amotekun Corps detained a large number of cows in Akure on Wednesday for violating the state’s anti-grazing law.

Amotekun operatives brought the seized cows to their headquarters in Alagbaka, causing significant vehicular traffic along Arakale/NEPA Road in the state capital.

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu signed the anti-open grazing bill into law in August 2021 after it was passed by the state House of Assembly.

According to Akeredolu, the measure is in keeping with the Southern governors’ commitment that all states in the area pass legislation barring open grazing by September 1, 2021.

The measure, he added, was a great step that would minimize “needless skirmishes” on the people of the state.

The governors’ move elicited varied reactions, with some Nigerians applauding them for taking the initiative.
