Amazon Set To Shut Down Alexa After 25 Years Of Operation

Amazon has announced the closure of Alexa.com, a website ranking tool that has been in operation for the past 25 years.

Alexa, which was founded in 1996, offers a paid subscription service that includes sophisticated SEO research and analysis tools.

According to Amazon, after Alexa is decommissioned, the corporation will deactivate the service’s API in December 2022 and before the service is discontinued, users will be able to export their Alexa data.

“After two decades of helping you find, reach, and convert your digital audience, we’ve made the difficult decision to retire Alexa.com on May 1, 2022,” the company stated on its support page.

Alexa Internet is no longer taking new memberships as of December 8, however, existing customers will continue to have access until the service is discontinued.

Though the corporation did not give a reason for the shutdown, reports indicate statistics from traffic and marketing analytics firm Semrush, which reveals that the service’s own traffic has been steadily declining over the years could well be a reason.
