Allevinah Goal Gives Gabon Hope Of AFCON Knockout Round.
Gabon drew 1-1 with Ghana, putting them on the verge of the Africa Cup of Nations knockouts, thanks to a superb late goal from Jim Allevinah.
Gabon got off to the best start, but Ghana broke the stalemate after 18 minutes. With his back to goal, Andre Ayew received the ball 25 yards away, swivelled superbly, and struck a shot into the bottom left corner.
Although both teams had chances to threaten their opponent’s goal in the first 45 minutes, poor execution in the final third limited clear-cut chances.
Gabon had a golden chance to level the game early in the second half, but Junior Assoumou misjudged a free header from a corner.
As the game progressed into the second half, they had another fantastic opportunity around the hour mark.
A low cross was only half-cleared as far as Johann Obiang within the box, who blasted a shot towards goal that was saved by Iddrisu Baba’s strong head.
Allevinah finally shattered Ghana’s resistance with a superb left-footed goal.
After the final whistle, players and staff collided in the middle of the pitch as the two teams clashed.
