Alaafin Of Oyo Dies At 83.
Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, the Alaafin of Oyo, has died.
Alaafin, a first-class Nigerian monarch, died on Friday night in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State, at the Afe Babalola University Teaching Hospital. He was 83 years old when he died.
The body of the senior Yoruba traditional ruler was transported to Oyo town this morning (Saturday), and traditional funeral rites have commenced.
The monarch had been ill due to old age issues, and a plan had been formed to fly him out of the country before he died late Friday night.
In 1970, Lamidi Adeyemi replaced Alaafin Gbadegesin Ladigbolu II. His death marks the end of a 52-year reign.
He was survived by 13 wives and a large family.
