The Minister of Niger Delta, Godswill Akpabio has reacted to the allegations of sexual harassment made against him by the former Acting Managing Director, Interim Management Committee of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Ms. Gbene Joi Nunieh. 

Akpabio in a statement issued by his media aide Anietie Ekong, described the allegations as “a litany of lies” 

According to the statement:  “The Honourable Minister did not, at any time, place or circumstance make any form of sexual advances to Ms. Nunieh, not even to put himself in a position or posture suggestive of sexual advances towards Ms. Nunieh, or any female staff of his Ministry or the NDDC.” 

The statement which maintained that Akpabio had not in any point of time sexually harassed Ms Joi, added that he is happily married and contented with his wife.

It also noted that the need for the minister to react to the allegations of sexual harassment became necessary because of his respect and admiration for his wife, Mrs. Ekaete Akpabio, children and sisters. 

The Minister concluded that Ms. Nunieh’s attacks were both sponsored and personal adding that they were instigated by people who were afraid of the truth. 

It would be recalled that Ms Joi Nunieh had in an interview granted recently, accused the minister of sexual harassment, workplace harassment and corruption.
