Abolongo Jailbreak Executed Mainly to Free Fulani Warlord, Iskilu Wakili -Report, Ijaw News - Niger Delta Stories
Iskilu Wakili, the notorious Seriki Fulani in Ibarapa sacked by Sunday Igboho early this year.

Fulani gunmen were responsible for the attack on the Abolongo correctional facility in Oyo town, Oyo State, on Friday night.

During a phone chat with top prison guards, an online news outlet revealed that the gunmen carried out the attack in order to free the incarcerated notorious Fulani warlord Iskilu Wakili and other criminal Fulani herdsmen.

Hundreds of inmates at the Abolongo Correctional Facility took advantage of the attack, which occurred around 10 p.m. on Friday, to flee the facility.

According to sources who contacted to SaharaReporters, the gunmen struck in Ogbomoso, a nearby town, three days before the Friday invasion.

Hundreds of inmates at the Abolongo Correctional Facility took advantage of the attack, which occurred around 10 p.m. on Friday, to flee the facility.

According to sources who contacted to SaharaReporters, the gunmen struck in Ogbomoso, a neighboring town to Oyo, three days before the Friday invasion, and security operatives were fully aware of their presence in the region.

“The attack in Oyo last night from the Ogbomosho axis was a well-coordinated Fulani attack aimed at securing the release of Wakili, the terrorist whom (Sunday Adeyemo) Igboho drove away from Ibarapa. I am informed by my staff and very reliable people that he was the object of that attack last night at about 10pm,” one of the top source said.

“The rest was just drama. My security staff told me the gunmen struck three days ago on the Oyo-Ogbomosho Road and around that time, their strange faces were also seen around an area the boys described to me. This was a well-coordinated attack with the objective to free Wakili and other Fulani inmates,” he added.

It was previously alleged that an explosive device was used to blow up the prison’s entryway, forcing security personnel to flee for their lives.

According to SaharaReporters, the NCS’s spokeswoman, Olanrewaju Anjorin, answered, “Yes.” It has been established that the attack took place. The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) Comptroller and other top executives are now analyzing the situation. However, I can attest to the fact that the occurrence occurred.”

Wakili, the notorious Fulani warlord terrorizing Oyo villages, was apprehended on March 7 by a joint team of Ibarapa security operatives, including the Oodua Peoples Congress, Vigilante, and other organisations.

Wakili had been arrested after several attempts resulting in a gun battle.

There had been reports that Wakili and his gang were involved in the killings and kidnapping of several people in Ibarapa, Oke Ogun, Oyo State.

Wakili was apprehended just seven days after his second-in-command, Isiaka Muhammadu, and four others were apprehended.

In a statement, Yorubaland’s Aare Ona Kakanfo, Gani Adams, confirmed Wakili’s detention.

On June 7, gunmen suspected of being herders reportedly shot and killed 17 people at Igangan, in the Ibarapa North LGA.

Residents said the hoodlums arrived on motorcycles around 11 p.m. on Saturday and attacked until 3 a.m. on Sunday.

They suspected Wakili’s mercenaries on a vengeance mission of being behind the incident.

Residents described seeing bodies of children and adults sprawled throughout the town at dawn, while the assailants torched buildings and cars, including a truck laden with cassava flour.

The gunmen set fire to buildings to drive residents out, then opened fire on them, according to Oladiran Oladokun, the Convener of Igangan Development Advocates.

He claimed that the government did not take security seriously, and that the herdsmen were planning an attack on them.
