2023: Godswill Akpabio Declares For President.

Godswill Akpabio, Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, has formally entered the All Progressive Congress (APC) presidential bid for 2023.

Mr Akpabio declared his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) three years ago at the same location.

Akpabio has now joined his colleague, Rotimi Amaechi, former governor of Rivers State, in the battle to succeed their boss in 2023.

Amaechi and Akpabio served as governors of Rivers and Akwa Ibom states, respectively, from 2007 to 2015.

Udom Emmanuel, Akpabio’s successor as governor, is also running for president on the PDP ticket.

Mr. Akpabio declared his intention to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023 in the middle of a profoundly split party in the state.

The APC’s Akwa Ibom State chapter is split into two sections. One side, led by Stephen Ntukekpo, is staunchly opposed to Mr Akpabio.

During the declaration, Mr Ntukekpo’s group was present in the stadium.

The second group, led by Austin Ekanem and loyal to the party’s previous secretary, John Akpanudoedehe, was glaringly absent from Mr Akpabio’s presidential announcement.
